About Us
For the Kids, Since 1990
East County Youth Football & Cheer was founded in 1990 by Mario and Gale Camilli, and the mission has not changed.
We create an environment that lets young athletes learn football and spirit leading skills, practice good sportsmanship as part of a competitive team, and build character and self-esteem — while having fun.
Our board of directors, coaching staff, participants and families are all expected to demonstrate that both on and off the field. Participants live primarily in Brentwood, Oakley, Discovery Bay, Antioch and other East Contra Costa County cities, and we accept applicants from surrounding communities.
East County is part of the EBYFC — the East Bay Youth Football and Cheer Association — which is made up of 19 member organizations. In 2024 we fielded nine football and four cheer squads, grouped by age and weight under EBYFC rules. Football squads are capped at 36 players and our goal is to keep as many kids as the rules allow.
Football workouts and evaluations begin around mid-July, and our coaching staff determines final rosters. In some cases we must release players for safety or behavior reasons. Cheer squads are set through a tryout process, typically in April or May. Practices and home games are held in the Brentwood area, and the season runs from mid-July through late November.
Every participant and parent follows a Code of Conduct that sets out what the Lions expect. Athletes maintain a minimum grade-point average and are encouraged to earn Scholar Athlete awards from both the Lions and the conference. Our goal for football and cheer alike is to prepare participants for the standards of high school competition — a team sport that demands endurance, commitment, strength, discipline and hard work.
